Okay ladies, I need a little wedding advice. I'd love to know you all think or what you did at your own weddings!
How did you handle Wedding Programs? Its way too expensive to buy these through the company that is doing my amazing invitations. I'm going to have to make them myself. Do I print them myself or take them to a printer? Also, where can I buy the materials? I know Micheal's has the Martha Stewart Collection and I also found these. I could buy these plain and print them myself or have them printed. Its weird because it says you can only print on one side of each insert. We're having a traditional Catholic Wedding Mass, and I'm going to need to print a lot of info. I'd like to print on both sides of the inserted paper and simply put our monograms or initials on the cover of the program. Please, give me some tips!
Also, I'd love have menu cards placed at each table. Do I need to put one at each place, or can I set up two on each table? I'd love to just keep it simple and do just two per table.
I think we're going to have a seating scroll printed, rather than use place cards. Any thoughts on this?

I made the programs for my wedding myself! I ordered supplies from envelopements.com. This is the warehouse site...but they'll give you local vendors that you can order from.

I have seen some do it yourself kits at Crane and Co, but think they almost add up to the same amount as having a printer do them professionally.
I really like the one you are thinking about at Polka Dot Design.
To save money, I would print the inserts or take them to Kinko's to print.
As far as menu cards, two per table sounds great. I'm thinking of doing something similar to save $$$...
I didn't do programs because my wedding was outside and I didn't want the inevitable litter all over. I didn't do it - but, my thought was to make one large program to set on an easel at the back. You could try that!
And, we had a set menu (people RSVPed with their entree choice) so, I don't know about menus. Or, seating scrolls. Gosh, I'm so naive!

I made the programs myself. We have a really good laser printer at home and I did them with some paper I bought at Hobby Lobby. The paper ended up matching my invitations almost perfectly. It only cost me about $90 to do 450 programs. It was a great deal. The printer wanted to charge me $380. I saved almost $300 doing it myself.
I created my program on Microsoft Word and then had it printed in black and white on sage green cardstock at Kinkos. Microsoft hs plenty of templates that allow you to set up the text on the pages so it will print like a booklet.
I didn't not spend a lot of money because it simply was not a priority for me. It cost a little of $20 for 70 programs.
When I do very formal events we always have a menu card at each place. However, if it is not white tie we will often just do one at every other. You could also just try three a table. You want to make sure guests can see the menu card from their place rather than having to pass it around. The fewer you have the more lost they will become. Hope this helps!
I made mine in Adobe Illustrator, but you can also make them in MS Word. Basically, they can be as simple as folding a regular sheet of 8.5 x 11" paper in half. Ours was about 3 sheets, folded in half, then I printed out wedding logo cardstock for a cover. I punched two holes onto the spring, about 3 inches apart, and tied with a satin ribbon that matched the bridesmaid dresses. You can probably even get them printed at Kinkos and save yourself the hassle of trying to print them at home. I am having a friend of mine design my program, and I'm printing it on linen paper and using ribbon to tie it up with. Pretty easy and cheap!
Wow, these girls really came through with some great ideas! I wouldn't know much myself, but I've seen some great examples on Wedding Bee, Style Me Pretty & so on of homemade versions. My bro just got married & his wife made theirs with paper from Target {they have all that wedding stuff in their stationary area now}, her printer, & a paper cutting tool thing that put it all together! See, ha, I know nothing! Good luck - can't wait to see what you come up with!
We had everything done except the programs. I made those myself. I typed it up, had them printed & folded & I bought ribbon and finished them up. It was more work but I thought it would be meaningful.
I stressed that the paper wasn't going to be Cranes & letterpress. It was my husband that brought me back to the ground that people throw these away. He said something like "It's only important for us". He was right. Do what you want & trust me no one will remember. It's your amazing day.
