A Way To Save A Life

A few years ago my mother and I decided to become part of the National Bone Marrow Registry. This was because my mother's dear friend was in need of a transplant and we wanted to see if we'd be a match. Neither of us were, but despite the doctor's predictions, her friend is doing well! She was given a few months and that was 6 years ago!

Well, my information was still in the registry and I was contacted a few weeks ago as being a possible match for someone else! I answered a series of questions (similar to those asked when you donate blood) which sent me one step further. They are now unfreezing my blood for additional testing. If that pans out, I'll have to go in for some more tests and then hopefully, I'll be a match for someone!

I really encourage everyone I know to donate blood and in addition, to become a member of the Bone Marrow Registry. What a gift it would be to help save a life! Click here for more information about donating. I will certainly keep you all informed if I move along to the next steps!

Also, many thanks to Stevy at The Rest is Still Unwritten! I won her giveaway! I'm so excited! The giveaway includes Bliss products, which I've never tried. Also a really cute purse, which, lets be honest, one can never have too many purses! Thank you Stevy!!!! :)

Tonight is The Last Supper recap on Bravo. Apparently, the producers re cut "the fight" about "the book" (which I'm still waiting for at my library...) and they are airing the longer version tonight! I can't wait, and plan to do a little recap this weekend!

that is such a good post and I completely agree with you. I need to go ahead and do that. I have always been an advocate of organs after you pass but what a gift it would be to know and connect with the person you help.

Good for you!!! I am so happy you are saving a life! I tried to donate blood once, but I have been told that I cannot because I lived in Germany in the 80s. Apparently, I could have mad cow. My question is wouldn't I know it by now? ha!

Wow, that's a great thing to do. I've heard it's really painful. I can't donate blood either because I got my nose pierced last year....and I'm thinking about doing it again...

You definitely have done a wonderfuly thing. I have to say that everytime I have a blood test, they have to call in the specialist to get my blood....not fun! You won another giveaway???? You lucky girl!
