The Pink Tutu tagged me to share my favorite childhood books! Well, I think I was only tagged to choose one, but like The Pink Tutu, I couldn't pick just one!



This is a book a I had completely forgotten about until I came across it at work a few weeks ago. That is one of the fun things about working at this library! The pictures in this book are incredible and its a cute story. I remember just loving this book, and asking my mom to read it to me over and over again!


Who doesn't love Madeline? Gosh, those are great books. I think this is what started my love of all things French! I remember going to Neiman Marcus as a little girl (to have brunch with Santa, of course) and finding the most darling Christmas Madeline doll. Well, she showed up under our tree that Christmas, and I still love her!

Probably my favorite series! My mother had almost the whole series in our basement and I just thought there were the bees knees. Actually, I found them to be really scary when I was younger!

Of course any child of the 90's loved The Babysitters Club! New York, New York was my favorite. I don't really even remember what that particular title was about, but I loved all things New York as a kid and Stacey was my favorite character, so clearly, I loved this!

I read the whole series! I know you did too! :) I have Molly, so of course I had to post the first book in her series, but there were all really educational and entertaining. I'm glad girls still love these characters today.

Now for my all time, #1 favorite book:
I don't know if anyone else out there in blogland has read this or any of the other books in this series, but this book was my favorite book as a kid. I must have bought this book when I was 8 or 9 and I read it constantly! It follows a 10 year old girl named Andrea as she attends classes at New York's American School of Ballet (Founded by George Balanchine this school is very well respected and feeds into the New York City Ballet). She is then cast as the lead in The Nutcracker and we follow her as she rehearses and performs with the New York City Ballet. When trying to find a picture of this book, I ran into this blog. The blog's author wrote this describing her relationship to this book: "It was almost an obsession. Its pages so familiar, looking back now, they almost seem my own memories rather than the tale of a girl I've never met." I feel the exact same way! I looked at and read this book constantly! It was a really inspiring book for any young dancer. My sister owned this book from the same series:We were pretty much obsessed with one too. The girl was a great gymnast and given the opportunity to travel to Germany to compete. Very 70s, and we thought it was just the best! I also loved this book in the series:This girl also took ballet at American School of Ballet and I always imagined she and Andrea were friends. Lol. I think I'm going to have to order this one from Amazon.

So there you have it, my friends, proof of both my status as a nerd and my qualifications to teach little kids about books! I tag anyone who wants to do this. I think you all should, because its really fun to travel down memory lane and remember some of things we loved as children.
