Advice Needed

I'm currently living in a wedding preparation nightmare! I need some advice. We always planned to give carmel apples as our favors. I've found clear bags on a website that are made to hold carmel apples. We planned to try Costco to buy the apples, or buy out several grocery stores! The carmel apples come in three packs and are normally on sale for 2 or 3 dollars for the pack. We have about 130 people coming to the wedding (including the bridal party and family, so we may only need 120 apples) We figure on Wednesday of the wedding week, we'll assemble the apples in the bags and tie them with purple or gold ribbon.

My wedding planner has cautioned me that this is going to be more work than I think, and that they might get too sticky/messy. What do you all think? Honestly! This is not a time to be agreeable. :) I can put them in my two fridges until the wedding day.

From one bride to another...I think this idea is fabulous and I think it maybe a lot of work to put on you before the wedding.

Let us know what you decide!

I agree---it's a fabulous idea, but may be too much work for just you. Do you have people to help you put them together? Like bridesmaids, family, etc? You could have everyone over to your place to help the week of, and provide pizza and sodas/beer? Might be fun =)

I think it's a great idea for a favor. I received one last year at a wedding and thought it was so unique. Just make sure you get plenty of help... it does sound like a lot of work. *Good luck!

I think it's a really creative and cute idea, but you may want to employ your bridal party or some friends one night to help you out! These types of projects always end up being a lot more work than they initially seem like they would be.

I'll be honest. Caramel apples are really hard to wrap.

Also? As a bride who did no DIY EXCEPT my favors [I'm an idiot], I will tell you that it WILL take longer than you plan.

It took my mom and my sister a week to assemble our favors. I had the same amount of guests...and there was no home baking/cooking...just assembling.

Employ family to help you...or even consider buying the apples already made.

If you have lots of helpers, it's a great idea! If it is just the two of you doing it - I would think more about timing.

Fabulous idea thoguh. Very fun!

I agree with everyone else...it's a great idea, but you are going to be so busy during your wedding week that it might be a lot to take on the week of your wedding. If you have lots of people who can help, it might work.

That is one of the cutest gift ideas I've seen...but, i think it will be extremely time consuming and mess. You live in a good are to keep them from melting though. If there is a way you could get help, I would say you need AT LEAST 10 helpers. You know, you can have them made at a flower shop or bakery. I think the local grocery store bakeries will do them. I made my own invitations and programs and they turned out great but...I still wish I had spent the extra money to save me the headache of doing them myself.

I think its a great idea! It will certainly take a few hours to put everything together and have it look the way you want, but it might be a nice distraction from all of the other running around you will be doing. I say go for it!

I love this idea, and as long as you have some help, I say go for it! It is getting cool enough that they should be hard enough to stay looking nice! Sounds delish!

Cute idea. Make sure you ask for help, because everyone wants to help out the bride but just doesn't know how. It's makes people feel part of the upcoming spectacular event!

I am thinking about doing something very similar with my wedding. I want to do pralines and package them up like that. I imagine it will be a lot of work, but if your bridesmaids can help out...it will work out! Good Luck!

I think you're being very realistic about the time and work involved. I love the idea, and say more power to you!

In my beginnings of an event planning intern according to my boss the bride SHOULD just relax before her big day. She suggested getting a bunch of girls together to help do projects like that. Good luck!

I think this is such a good idea! Why don't you try it before the wedding & see how they last? I think it is a fabulous idea though!!

I do think it will take time, but I love, love, love the idea. I guess, it just depends on how important this detail is (this coming from a detail jumkie, of course). Please let us know what you decide to do!!!

Ok, I think this is such an awesome idea. We actually considered doing carmel apples at one time too! Here is my advice- if you want it, you can make it happen! But first, do a test run. Maybe this weekend you can make a few, see how difficult of a job it is and then leave one out for a few hours to see how it holds up. Time how long it takes to make one, etc. Then multiply that by how many you will make for your actual wedding day. I think that might give you a little more perspective on whether or not you they are worth it for you.

Its an awesome idea though :)
