Mediterranean Diet

There are so many "diets" around today that work, its hard to find one that is right for me. I remember when Dr. Atkins first released his book. My step-mom went from a size 12 to a 6! My dad lost loads of weight on Dr. Atkins diet too. Then it was South Beach and The Zone. Remember when Gwenyth Paltrow ate a macrobiotic diet? Yeah, google that one!

I try to eat healthy (though I do indulge at least once a week!), and I exercise at least 4 times a week. My theory is that exercise alone will do nothing for me. It's all about diet. However, how does a married woman, with a picky husband (who actually wants carbs and a happy wife who isn't starving and bitching all day) find a diet that we can both stick to?

Above is the food pyramid for the Mediterranean Diet. I remember reading about The Mediterranean Diet years ago. My family always says my grandfather is alive today because he always ate this way. So does my grandmother. She is 85 and he 92! So I interloaned a few books on the "diet". Most diet books are half explanation, half recipes, or worse, daily meal plans. The book I got had 45 pages of explanation! 45 pages, thats it! The rest is filled with recipes and, yes, the dresed meal plan. I do think its worth glancing over though so you get an idea of how to put the foods together.

This "diet" is pretty much how I already eat and incorporates all the foods I love! Think whole wheat pasta, olive oil, garlic (my fav) loads of fruit and veggies, lean meats, and fish. This book gave some great ways to prepare foods in combinations I would have never tried. Like chick peas. I love them, but never bothered to make them. I'm very excited about this and thought I'd share it with you.

this is exactly how we should be eating- I've eaten like this for the past decade- it only took bypass surgery on my dad for my parents to ultimately conform. combined with running, he's dropped 65 lbs!

Thanks for sharing! Let us know how it's going. You'll have to share what you ate in a day while following the plan. I'd love to hear more about it!

My kind of diet. Makes perfect sense. Looking at it, I probably eat that way, too. Although, I do love cheese and eat quite a bit. I'm especially into grilled pimento cheese sandwiches made with homemade white bread. Probably not the best thing to eat, but so delicious. :)

I sent you an email. Let me know what you think.

Take care! :)

I'll have to take a look. We've been so easy lately that we've taken to grabbing whatever is the fastest. Unfortunately those things are usually the WORST for us.
