Aubergine is my favorite color, but I also chose it because it fit both the season of our wedding and the venue. There is lots of purple and gold (our colors) at the venue where were had our reception.
When I was in the planning stages of my wedding, my best friend told me to hold off on choosing colors and dresses until I had picked our venue. This was the best advice, because one you know where your wedding will be, you have a better idea of what the vibe will be. Had I picked a different venue (or time of the year), the color pallet, and dress styles would have been so different!

I asked the venue to keep the ceiling purple for dinner, and then rotate the colors for the dancing part of the night:
