This is tiresome.

Many of you know that I consider myself a Republican, however this bullshit is getting really really tiresome. I am starting to rethink my allegiance. I have felt for sometime that the GOP doesn't really represent me at all anymore. I'm not sure the GOP even realizes that they don't exactly represent themselves anymore. The party I thought I was supporting stood for lower taxes, less government involvement in my life and strong foreign policy. The GOP was built on these principles. Today, more than ever, the GOP seems to be for something else. In some ways, more government involvement in my life. Religious beliefs mixing with politics and law. Religious freedom and birth control can exist in the same country, believe it or not. AND, it's completely acceptable for insurance companies to cover birth control.

If your church doesn't condone its use, don't use it. I take it because I suffer from endometriosis and have for 5 years. My insurance does not cover the pill, the most common and effective way to keep this condition at bay. By the way, 5-10% of women suffer from endometriosis. If left untreated, it can cause some serious health issues. Birth Control is a preventative drug in more ways than one.

I'm not trying to preach or change anyone else's opinion. But I'm certainly entitled to mine, and I think the GOP is heading into dangerous territory. I'm not sure they will recover from this nonsense. Oh, and Rush Limbaugh is a fat ass hole.

Oh, wow, Princess, I don't even know what to say! Here it goes:

Libs have successfully managed to turn a "Religious Freedom" issue into a "contraceptive" issue. I am outraged. The government cannot force/mandate religious institutions to provide birth control when it goes against their core principals/teachings. It is unconstitutional. That is the issue. Nothing else.

For me, it's a constitutional/government intrusion issue. In addition, I do NOT think I should have to pay for someone else's birth control. I had to buy it, so should everyone else. I am sick and tired of everyone thinking everything should be "free" (Oh, and there are plenty of places where the "free loaders" can get their pills. "Planned Parenthood" for example.) Just look what is happening in our country because of this mind-set (Occupy Wall Street comes to mind. My husband and I started out at the bottom and worked our way up. NEVER did we think we were entitled to someone else's hard work. I just don't get it. Perhaps it's because I grew-up in the Reagan years!).

We are headed down a dangerous path. Just look at the deficit.

As far as Rush, well, Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c*nt - for which he NEVER apologized! How many others trashed her and her daughter (awful). Laura Ingram has been called a slut and liberals in the media freely referred to Condoleezza Rice as "Aunt Jemima." Where was the liberal media's outrage when this was all going on (I could site many more examples.)? Such hypocrites.

I believe the core values of the Republican Party are solid. It's the liberal media that continues to spin the issues. I, for one, am sick of it. For me, Barack Obama cannot get out of office fast enough. Oh, and trust me, a lot of liberals are saying the same thing. They, too, hardly recognize their party anymore.

Sorry...I will get off my soapbox.

Amen lady. I consider myself socially very liberal but fiscally moderate/conservative and I find that there is just no party for me. And these issues, ones of women's HEALTH, have no place in the rhetoric whatsoever.

Lord have mercy!!!

Ugh this is why I am so grateful to be in Canada where religion plays zero role in politics.

Am a Democrat who keeps waiting for the socially liberal, moderately-religious only, fiscally cautious, Republican to change my mind:). The right person could do it.

Cool gal, pointing the finger doesn't work all the time. It wasn't right when Bill Maher said it, either. I personally don't mind paying for my own stuff, but when women need birth control pills due to conditions like endometriosis, it should be covered. Why should that young lady be called a slut for pointing it out? What does it solve? Who does it help? It should be covered for women who need it! Republican men should stay out of women's wombs!!

LOL, amen sister. So glad I found your blog. I couldn't have said it better myself. From one endometriosis sufferer to another...let them feel the pain of Endo for 1 month and then not cover something that helps that pain.

I really want to stand up and applaud this post. I am an "unenrolled" voter in a VERY "blue state" who usually sways Republican, but everything I'm hearing about this particular issue is making me rethink which party to vote with in the upcoming election.

Even after reading your comment, Cool Gal, my mind is still boggled that people - particularly women - feel the way that you do. You don't think you should have to pay for someone else's birth control? What if I did not feel like paying for someone else's antibiotics? Or blood pressure medication? Have some compassion. Like the blog writer has said, "Birth Control is a preventative drug in more ways than one" and to oppose it's availability to women because of religious beliefs is just plain ridiculous.

Keep voting Republican and Libraries and Librarians will be soon be just a quaint relic of the past!

Love this post! I wish more women would open their eyes and notice that voting Republican is detramental to womans rights.
