LASIK

So I'm a little over month out from my LASIK Surgery, and I am thrilled with the result! I feel like Superman. I wake up and I can see. A small miracle.

The entire surgery took about 20 minutes. There are two steps. First, the surgeon uses a laser to cut a flap in your eye. This part sucks. I won't lie. The nurse counts you down...."35 seconds....30 seconds...25 seconds, ect." By the time we were at 15 seconds, I had to start telling myself, "You hold a plank for almost 2 minutes in Pilates, you can handle this, lady!" I also did some visualizations of the beach and my cat. Calming images.

It isn't exactly painful, but if I were told I'd have to do it again next year, I'd rather not. :) While it doesn't hurt, it's more like a feeling of extreme pressure and it's not really great. After that is done to both eyes, you're moved to a second laser which does the actual "vision correction" part of the program. This doesn't hurt, but you can hear the laser and it smells a little. Personally, I found this portion to be a breeze after the first part. All you need to do is stare at a red dot and do not move no matter what. It's weird at first because you can't see (due to the flap), but as soon as the red dot is turned on, you can see only that.

After the surgery, my eyes were very very dry. I used prescription drops and am still using "tears". I only really need the tears in the morning (my eyes are so dry first thing in the morning, I reach for the tears before I do anything) and then as evening approaches and my eyes start getting tired. I don't know how long the dryness will last, but it's not that big of a deal. I've added flaxseed oil pills to my routine. My husband read that these help with the healing and dryness. All in all, I'd say if you are considering LASIK, you should go for it! Luckily, you only have to do it once, so i figure I can pretty much handle any surgery once.

In other news, I've been hired by Honda to work the Auto Show circuit. I'm thrilled! training is next month in LA, and I should know my schedule after. I thin it'll be a great experience and I look forward to exploring some new cities, blogging about the adventures and meeting new people. Hopefully, I can even meet some of you!

Glad to hear your surgery was a success! I've been wanting LASIK since I was 18, but have never been a candidate for it because my vision has never been steady for a long enough period of time.

Congratulations on the Honda job! Can't wait to hear all about it!
