Do most of you understand how to properly use a library? A.K.A.- Do you understand what the Dewy Decimal is? Would you "get" that J FIC actually stands for Juvenile Fiction and not the actual call number? Also, is it crazy to assume that you might realize that a call number such as J FIC KON would therefore mean the book is a Juvenile Fiction book and the author has a last name that starts with the letters KON? Just wondering, because it seems like the majority of people I deal with every day have no clue how to navigate a library!
I remember learning this in elementary school. I remember the library class we attended where they taught us this stuff. I then remember my mother doing something totally insane (that I rarely witness here where I work) and parenting me! She reinforced the library concepts I had previously learned at school and helped us find things on our own when we'd go to the library.
I know I sound nutty right now, but seriously?!?! I'm dealing with morons here. And these morons are raising America's youth. Please don't come up to me and ask "Where is j-f-i-c-k-o-n? I need you to show me..." Its irritating! You're a grown-up and you should be able to navigate a library. If you don't have the Dewy memorized, I completely understand! If you're too lazy to use the card catalogue yourself, I'll forgive that. But once I've looked up the book for you, don't stare blankly back at me like I'm speaking French! Oh, and why not try to educate your child too?
Its a small thing to ask, really....

Cute post, show it to J 2mrw I think she'll really enjoy it.
Have a fun 2nite with Ms. Green.
I remember learning all of that in elementary as well. I don't know if I remember all the specifics though. Although I do take my kids to the library and we don't have any problems finding the books we want.
I get it, I get it! I was in my local library the other day and paused to think back when I used to look up books in all those small card catalog drawers. Now I just type it into a computer!
i am with you on this one. not hard at all. :) hope you had a great weekend!!
