Dover Sole Inspiration

Saturday night at The Townsend Hotel was absolutely one of the most memorable nights and such fun! Our room was huge, and upon check in, I quickly made myself a nice hot bath with the salts provided. We enjoyed some chocolate covered strawberries, got ready for dinner, and met our friends in the lobby for cocktails.

Our dinner was divine! I knew it would be great, because I've eaten there in the past, but I tried a new dish and I couldn't have been happier! We started with soft shell crabs (just in season this month!), which were fan fried to perfection! I then had a cup of French onion soup, followed by the Dover Sole. B had short ribs, which were delicious!

I also enjoyed several martinis (didn't have to drive anywhere! :) ), and for dessert one of the Townsend's famous Hummers! Yum.

After dinner, we sat in the Tea Lobby and chatted. We plan to do this again this Fall in honor of our anniversary (if we don't go to Naples), and again in future years. The package also included a bottle of champagne, and breakfast in our room. I made mimosas! Lol.

Last year, I purchased Martha Stewart's Cooking School. After our amazing dinner Saturday, I was inspired to read this entire book and really learn to cook! I love cooking, but I sometimes shy away from serious recipes (such as Dover Sole or soft shell crab at home), and I've never made my own stock. I often fantasize about enrolling in culinary school someday. I'd love to work as a pastry chef. I think cooking my way through this book (its almost like a text book really) is a great way to fine tune my skills and interest. This will probably take me a long time, but I'm not in any hurry. Its like my own little Julie & Julia project!

Hey sweetie, that is AWESOME, sounds like a perfect weekend, just what you were hoping for! How did I know you were going to have the Dover Sole?? I am telling you, I was seriously drooling looking at the Rugby menu on Friday, and that item definitely stood out to me. I too would like to get a little more fearless and take on some more challenging culinary feats. Can't wait to hear what you tackle first! BTW, what is in a Hummer, never heard of it? :) xoxo

well, I might just have to come over, fork and plate in hand, sad orphan look on my face and hang out by your kitchen window the next time you make this, because it sounds incredible!

This does sound like the perfect mini-escape! And terribly romantic :)

Let us know how the cooking challenge goes. Would love to learn how to cook but I'm hopeless.
