B and I spent the weekend at a beautiful Summer home with his family. The home is located in the Irish Hills of Michigan. Being only a little over an hour away made this the perfect weekend getaway! We stayed right on Clark Lake, which is about ten minutes from Brooklyn, MI (home of the Michigan International Speedway, for any race fans, or those forced to know random Nascar facts because they're married to a race fan, like me!).
The weather was bad on Saturday, but cleared up long enough for an evening boat ride. Sunday was much better, and we enjoyed a day on the boat soaking up the rays. For breakfast Saturday, I made Paula Deen's French Toast Casserole. B and I prepared it Friday night, and it was delicious! Such a hit!
I only took two photos with my iPhone. Both are of the sunsets. I really love watching the sun setting, no matter where I am! It's so beautiful and peaceful.

For the last couple years, commercials have been aired in Michigan promoting different places one can visit in the state. They always end with "Come enjoy Pure Michigan". I constantly reference this when B and I go anywhere beautiful or scenic in our state. Honestly, Michigan really is beautiful and has so much to offer as a travel destination (well, except Detroit. I'd avoid that....). Living here, I enjoy being able to drive an hour and be soaking up the sun and seeing a sunset to rival any.

Good news on a completely different front. If you follow my Twitter, you might recall me complaining that my Gucci sunglasses broke. The side embellishment fell out. I paid $25 shipping and a $15 "processing fee" to the company that makes the sunglasses (not Gucci. They'll fix your bag, but not your glasses. I think they probably cost $3.99 to make and am not at all surprised they fell apart. Not to mention this was my second pair to have something random break on the them. The other pair is outdated, so i never bothered to do anything about it.), and last night, to my pleasant surprise, they mailed me a brand new pair complete with a new case! I was so relieved! These were a wedding gift from B, and I love them! See the gold emblem on the side? That is what fell out, and the other side was really loose. I guess all is well that ends well. I will probably never buy another pair of Guccis though...I guess I'll have to upgrade!

Hi sweetie pie! Hope your summer has been tres fabulous! I thought of you the whole time we were in Michigan, the wedding was actually quite lovely and the weekend couldn't have been nicer. I have about a million pics to download from my camera still! :)
Those sunsets are glorious, isn't it amazing, I almost wouldn't have guessed they were the same location! Your french toast sounds delish too! xoxo
Sorry about the sunglasses...that is the worst!
love love love! adding the book to my to read list too!
kHm
I love your pictures of the sunsets....they are absolutely beautiful! I am originally from Michigan and I agree with you...it is absolutely beautiful! I wish more people had a chance to experience the good parts of the state.
I LOVE the Pure Michigan commercials! They make me so proud of our state :) Irish Hills is a beautiful spot. One of the many in this pretty mitten of ours!
Beautiful pics! Would you believe I've never been there?! I've been so close (WI, IL), but have never been to Michigan. I'll have to go sometime =)
Enjoy these last couple of weeks of Summer!
what lovely pics...I love sunsets too especially on the water. The French toast sounds yummy, must try. i remember after 911 I made an apple pie...in trying times our families need simplicity and simple pleasures.
Godspeed for your hubby!

Detroit ROCKS!
Beautiful photos. So evocative.
We went to Michigan this summer too. I have grown to love our times on the lake. Glad you enjoyed!
Your weekend sounds wonderful. I am envious...btw, I see why you would want those sunglasses fixed, they are great!
Those Pure Michigan ads make me homesick!!! I haven't been back home since the Junior League of Detroit's Show House back in what -- May?!?!?! ARGH!! Luckily, we are heading up north to our cottage next weekend....M-22 here I come, can't wait! I am hoping to make it to Grosse Pointe in September. :)
Sounds like a wonderful weekend! I was in the Petosky/Bay Harbor area for the wedding. Loved the cute little towns!
While I don't necessarily always agree with all of your feelings toward Detroit(I think it's a great city, despite its problems and setbacks), I definitely agree about Michigan having tons of scenic and beautiful places. I enjoy living here most of the year (minus the winter months of January, February and March...unless March is unseasonably warm and then it's okay - ha!). We travel up north quite a bit and just love getting away to someplace peaceful and quiet. Have a great weekend!
P.S. My husband is a NASCAR fan too and has been to M.I.S. many times. I have never been myself.
Your pix are gorgeous Miss Tutu, those are lovely sunsets. I'm glad Gucci sent a new pair of glasses, you're spot-on about the profit margin they have in the plastic, they did the right think, and that's always nice to see.
The Paula Deen Casserole is one we have made.....oh. my.word. TDF, completely and totally TDF.
Sending you a smile,
tp
