Adventures in Cooking

My dad is visiting from Florida this coming weekend. My sister is graduating from college, and we're very excited to celebrate all weekend long! I had planned to make a Standing Rib Roast Friday night for dinner. I anticipated this would be an expensive cut of meat, but when I Googled (how did I live before Google?) to get an idea of exactly how much, I see most are well over $100! Not sure if this pricing is typical, but I won't be purchasing this. I'm pretty disappointed because I have a recipe I wanted to try complete with Yorkshire Pudding, which will have to wait.

Instead, I've decided to make a Pot Roast in my slow-cooker with vegetables and en lieu of the traditional Yorkshire Pudding, I'll make fresh popovers. Or, if I make a roast in my oven, does anyone know if I'll get enough juices and drippings to make the Yorkshire Pudding anyway? The only time I've made a roast was in the slow-cooker..... Either way, my dad simply adores this type of cooking, and I know he'll be freezing, so hopefully it'll be a hit and warm him up!

What do you all think I should plan for dessert? I was thinking maybe some Christmas Cookies or a Pumpkin Pie? Thoughts?

You are so ambitious! I'm a huge fan of Christmas cookies after big meals, so my vote is definitely for cookies ;) Can't wait to hear how it goes! xo

Pot roast sounds great. You can't go wrong with "comfort" food. Yum.

My vote is for Christmas cookies or a nice cheesecake.

Let us know what you decide. You always make such fabulous things. I know your dad will be so grateful! :)

Have a wonderful visit with your Dad!! btw - what kind of slow cooker do you have? I'm in the market for one but am not sure which brand, size, etc...

Funny enough, I made a roast in the oven this weekend and you SHOULD have enough drippings (I cooked it in red wine and beef broth). Plus, if you add some veggies they mix into the sauce and are DELICIOUS.

I think you should do christmas cookies as well. I am making my first gluten free christmas cookies this weekend :)

Have fun with your dad and tell your sister we say congrats!

Good luck to your sister, although sometimes I wish I was still in college. Life seemed so much easier then, LOL! Have fun with your father, sounds like a fabulous meal! Just think...you'll be back down in Naples B4 U know it! Brrrr!!!

Hope you have a great time with your father, I'm betting that pot roast is going to be yumalicious, and smell even better than that!

Sending you a smile,
