Merry Belated Christmas Everyone!

Today is the first day in a week I've had time to get on blogger! I've just been going and going and going.... I hope you all had a lovely Christmas/ Hanukkah! I sure did. And I also had the opportunity to see many of my dear friends who were home visiting! I'm a bit sad its over! Luckily, I don't go back to work until the 5th!

Yesterday, B and I decided to go out for brunch. We went to Deli Unique. If you're ever in the area, I recommend this place! Its great for breakfast or lunch. In fact, B had breakfast and I had a great chicken salad sandwich! B then decided that he did NOT need to watch the Detroit Lions lose their last game, so we went to Birch Run on a whim. I got a few tee shirts at J.Crew, a clock at Pottery Barn, and B bought a sweatshirt and two long sleeve tops at Northface. It was really cold, but we had a fun time together!

Thanks for all your comments on my last post about our neighbor. Things have certainly quieted down over there. On Christmas Eve, we were heading over to B's dad's and our neighbor happened to be on the porch (we share it). B was pulling the car up for me because the parking lot was an ice rink and I was wearing heels (of course!). Well, neighbor says to me (rather rudely), "Hey guys, when you leave a note can you please sign your names next time? I didn't know who wrote that."
Me: "Oh, well, we assumed you knew it was us considering we're your direct neighbor."
Neighb: Looks around, motions with hands. "We have many neighbors."
Me: "I understand, but we share a common wall with you!"
Neighb: "Ok, well, now I have to go to court for a misdemeanor....blah,blah, I'll leave you my number and in the future I can come home of he's barking. I have roommate now (a whole new story, ladies!!!!) and she, Tiffany, can come home whenever the dog is barking. She was in the hospital the other day when you called the police." (Should I be feeling bad?)
Me: At this point B has pulled up, rolled down the window and is listening. "Ok, that'd be great."
Neighb: "And he (the dog) is 13 and half deaf and my only option is put him down. I'm not ready to do that."
Me: "I understand, please leave us your number then. Merry Christmas."

I have received no number. I haven't met the new roommate, or gotten her number. I don't really feel bad for him. I get that his dog is old and he doesn't want to let him go yet. I would never imply he should. I just don't see how that is related to his rudeness and that fact he leaves that poor dog alone all the time. I guess the roommate is there more, because her car is always here, and the dog is being really quiet. Drama over. For now!

I am a Baking Machine!

Well, Thanksgiving is over, and I am finally feeling rested again! I decided this year I wanted to be more of a help to my mother. This is partly because I'm the best daughter in the world and partly because my sister and I have decided that some of the side dishes my family normally has are sick and we're going to slowly phase in new options. So, here is the rundown of what I made this year:

1. Two Pumpkin Pies (I know Costco has really big pumpkin pies for $5.99, but I think homemade tastes a lot better!)

2. Pumpkin Crisp

3. A Tomato Pastry appetizer. Its a recipe I got from Paula Dean's Christmas cookbook. Its basically a puff pastry with cheese, a tomato and spices baked in the oven. It was a major hit with my Italian family!

4. Corn Casserole

5. Artichoke Bake (found in Martha Stewart Living, November 2008) This was delicious!!!! And I'm glad to say was requested for next year too!

I actually surprised myself that I got all this stuff made and was only 30 minutes later to my mom's than I had planned. On Wednesday, E came over and we made pies. Everything else was made on Thursday morning!

Last night, B and I put up the tree and other decorations around the house. We had a little issue with my angel (its just too heavy), so I'm going to take a bow from my mom. She has these huge plaid bows she places around the house. I am going to put one on the top of the tree. If its cute, it might permanently replace the heave angel.

B also put up the pre-lit garland I bought at Costco. We had originally planned to put this on out banister, but there was no plug nearby and it is a little too long. So he hung it above the kitchen window and then added a string of red lights to give it a little more color than just the white. it looks perfect! I plan to head to Micheal's after work to pick up a few things. I'd like to get regular garland for the banister and just add ribbon or something to it to dress it up. I also need to buy the materials for my mother's Christmas present (I'm attempting to make her a Spring/Summer wreath!). I have so many coupons, so we might even be getting a new centerpiece!

I hope you all had a wonderful Turkey Day! We all have so much for which to be very thankful!
