I recently ordered this book from Martha Stewart and I'll tell you, its my new best friend! There is so much inspiration in these pages as well as gorgeous pictures!
I really want our cake to match the "feeling" of the wedding, so I really won't be able to decide until I've chosen flowers. The dress started it all. So the flowers must look great with the dresses (mine and the bridesmaids)and the cake should compliment everything!
I really like the look of this cake:
Its similar to one in the Martha book. The one in the book has fresh purple flowers and a ribbon on top. Our married monogram will be on the invitations, cocktail napkins, and matchbooks. Why not add it onto the cake as well?
I also love the look of the coconut cake! Only in stead of coconut shavings, I'd do white chocolate shavings.
I'm also a big fan of anything damask (I found some great black and white plates at TJ Maxx. I may buy them). There are some beautiful cakes out there with this theme. I was thinking I could do a very neutral pallet and incorporate the silver beading/broach looking detailing on my gown.
I like the Wedgwood cake too.
This is called the Matelasse Cake. It has the coolest detailing and I think it could be tweaked to work perfectly!
And who doesn't just love the idea of a cupcake cake?

What you think? What did you or are you planning to have for you own wedding?

For my first wedding I did the traditional 3 tier wedding cake, with bottom layer chocolate, middle white cake, and the top a marble cake. IF I get married again (keep your fingers crossed) I like the idea of a cupcake cake. Very casual but elegant. Plus of course, cheese cake for me. When my ex got remarried, he had two cakes; one the traditional cake and a smaller, sugar free one since he's diabetic and a 1/3 of the guests were.
Pretty cakes! I will admit the cake was not high on my priority list so we had a pretty simple cake from Publix. It was lovely and delicioius (photos in my current post).
I love the look of the coconut cake. As for cupcake cakes, I once read a line in a book that said: "How can you share your life with someone if you're not ever willing to share your cake with them."! Ha!

I love the first cake & the idea of using white chocolate rather than coconut - have you ever looked at Style Me Pretty? They have great ideas!
I love love love the pink damask. I don't know your wedding colors, but I love that look - it's fun but sophisticated at the same time. Classic with a splash!
I have this book too! MS is SOOO fabulous!!!!
What a FUN post! I will have to look for the book as I simpyl adore wedding cakes! I love the Wedgewood cake you posted, blue and white always delight! I am holding out for Ms. Sylvia to fly my cake to my wedding location. We shall see if father sides with mother and I when the time comes!!
my one regret at my wedding was not having a larger, more grand cake. i had 3 amazing flavors done by a french bakery who also did model niki taylor's wedding a couple years ago, and the flavor and look were perfect, i just wish the cake made more of a statement. beautiful choices, though!
I LOVED my cake. It was five layers of pure yumm! I wanted my cake to be the focal point of the reception since I am allergic to flowers we didn't do really anything big for the centerpieces. We did butter cream frosting with silk flowers between the layers.
I love the pink and white cake. We did something different. We had a 3-tier champagne with wine ribbon trim fondant cake and then we had a matching baby cake (exact replica of the big cake). I did swarovski crystal toppers on each (one big, on small). We had the baby cake displayed at the sweetheart table and I absolutely loved it!
I'm obsessed with wedding cakes, but not even engaged! Luckily, that doesn't stop me :) They're all gorgeous, though. Can't really go wrong with Martha.
Love the blog, by the way!
The Wedgewood cake in the photo is indeed beautiful but I'll tell you...I saw some local wedding photos the other day and the wedgewood cake plan went terribly wrong...the color was nowhere NEAR right. I felt really sorry for them...I think the lesson is that "you get what you pay for" and they went with the Publix bakery...
Oh my....those are all gorgeous! It would be so hard to decide. We went to a wonderful wedding last summer and the couple used their monogram on almost everything (even having the dance floor monogrammed!); it was lovely as I am sure yours is going to be!!!
The Blue and brown damask cake is beeeautiful as is the nearly tiffany blue box colored wedgwood. God bless you and trying to choose between all those beautiful cakes, I don't think i'd be up to the task! Hope all is well :)
These are so incredibly gorgeous and yummy! I love monograms on cake and love damask too. Good luck trying to pick just one :)
I love the damask cakes! Totally swanky! The pink one is the best though!
